A range of initiatives are carried out by Youghal Tidy Towns to control litter and keep Youghal Town as tidy and clean as possible.

Examples of such initiatives are detailed below:

  • Cork County Council Litter League – YTT actively participates in this competition and makes use of the competition to create litter control awareness and harness public support in controlling litter. Youghal came third in the Anti-Litter Challenge 2019 in Category A – the Large Town Category.
  • Clean Up Programme – YTT undertakes regular clean ups, most recently Claycastle Beach, The Quays and Docks with Youghal Scouts and Cork Hill with students from Pobail Scoil na Trinoide.
  • YTT organises and participates in An Taisce “Spring Clean” every year.
  • Fly Postering – YTT works closely with East Cork Municipal Council to prevent and eradicate this problem.
  • Bin Audit – YTT in association with Cork County Council has carried out a bin audit and a number of unsightly bins have been replaced with new ones as part of a replacement programme.
  • YTT produced and distributed a leaflet to all household on litter awareness and prevention.
  • Graffiti Removal – YTT has recently completed a Graffiti removal programme.
  • Dog Fouling – YTT continues to focus publicity on this issue in an effort to influence changing mindsets. A public awareness campaign was organized by YTT in 2018/19.
  • YTT has joined Cork County Council’s “green lead” campaign to encourage responsible dog ownership. YTT will be launching the initiative in Youghal in early June.
  • A sign audit was completed in the winter of 2018 and East Cork Municipal Council in cooperation with YTT have removed over 300 derelict/redundant signs on the main street and replaced them with new town centre parking and heritage signs – Spring 2019.
  • Youghal was Cork County Council nominee in the national Pride of Place competition in 2018.
