A
range of initiatives are carried out by Youghal Tidy Towns to control litter
and keep Youghal Town as tidy and clean as possible.
Examples
of such initiatives are detailed below:
Cork County Council Litter League – YTT actively participates in this competition and makes use of the competition to create litter control awareness and harness public support in controlling litter. Youghal came third in the Anti-Litter Challenge 2019 in Category A – the Large Town Category.
Clean Up Programme – YTT undertakes regular clean ups, most recently Claycastle Beach, The Quays and Docks with Youghal Scouts and Cork Hill with students from Pobail Scoil na Trinoide.
YTT organises and participates in An Taisce “Spring Clean” every year.
Fly Postering – YTT works closely with East Cork Municipal Council to prevent and eradicate this problem.
Bin Audit – YTT in association with Cork County Council has carried out a bin audit and a number of unsightly bins have been replaced with new ones as part of a replacement programme.
YTT produced and distributed a leaflet to all household on litter awareness and prevention.
Graffiti Removal – YTT has recently completed a Graffiti removal programme.
Dog Fouling – YTT continues to focus publicity on this issue in an effort to influence changing mindsets. A public awareness campaign was organized by YTT in 2018/19.
YTT has joined Cork County Council’s “green lead” campaign to encourage responsible dog ownership. YTT will be launching the initiative in Youghal in early June.
A sign audit was completed in the winter of 2018 and East Cork Municipal Council in cooperation with YTT have removed over 300 derelict/redundant signs on the main street and replaced them with new town centre parking and heritage signs – Spring 2019.
Youghal was Cork County Council nominee in the national Pride of Place competition in 2018.
